Huelva (Spain)

Cross-section of the gallery

Cross-section (not on scale) of the excavated part (150m only) of the roman infiltration gallery (0,40m x 1,25m) of Huelva (Spain). From the central access - La Fuente Vieja - 14m to the N and 125m to the S was accessible. The latter part was provided with two manholes, mainly blocked by debris. This gallery could have been part of a more elaborate system under the cabezo. Other manholes were found 128m from the Fuente Vieja near the TV-relay station, another close to the calle Aragón in the cabezo San Pedro. The basin of the well measures 2,50m x 1,80m and is 1,80m high, probably of not-roman origin. The gallery is situated 40m under the surface and 20m above sea level.
