Metz (France)

Two castella

To the left the basin on the west bank, at the start of the twin aqueduct bridge over the
river Moselle. The square in the middle represents a depression in the basin acting as a
settling facility for debris to settle down from the water. The extra channel was only
in use when surplus water had to be diverted or the bridge was temporarily put out of use.
The right basins is a collecting basin on the east bank of the Moselle: the waters from the
twin bridge (at right) and from the extra supply channel (top) were conducted towards direction
Metz (bottom) (drawing from Stubinger 1909).
