Aqua Claudia

Before Porta Maggiore

At right the Acqua Felice (16th c) on the substructions of the Aquae Claudia and Anio Novus.
Both make a sharp turn northeast towards Porta Maggiore (not visible here; behind the modern
Acqua Marcia pump house inscription (middle)). Left a branch of the Aqua Claudia towards
Nero's golden House and the Palatine, called Arcus Caelimontani or Arcus Neroniani.
