A clay water conduit of the Peisistratid aqueduct preserved for a length of 62 meters and
oriented E-W, consisting of pipes provided with holes for inspection and/or maintenance, and
bearing painted bands and symbols - letters of the alphabet combined with dots - which seem to
have served as guides for assembling them correctly. This section in the hall of the Evangelismos
metro station in Athens must have been the basic channel of a major water supply system
construction in the time of Peisistratids (527 - 510 BCE) which started from the springs of the
Ilissos river on Mt Hymettos. This section of the conduit is dated in the late 6th century BCE, on
the basis of the type of lettering on the pipes.
