Athens (Greece)

Southwest fountain house

This large fountain house was constructed in the southwest corner of the Agora near a major
crossroad of the ancient city. The building is in a poor state of preservation. It consisted of a
large L-shaped draw basin with a floor area of just over 100 m2 surrounded by a colonnaded
porch with unfluted columns. Water was brought in a great stone underground conduit, which has
been traced to the east for some 220 m.
