Hadrian Athens (Greece)

River crossing

Instead of bridging over the river, the original Hadrian’s aqueduct was cut under the Kifissos river in the
gorge called Chelidoniou. Here the modern version - replacing a predecessor in 1930 - crosses the river
by means of a pipe / tunnel equipped with a manhole. From P. Defteraios / www.urbanspeleology.blogspot.gr
