Inscriptions

The High level aqueduct was embellished with at least 10 inscriptions. Almost all were in Latin
referring to the Roman legions which were involved in repair and/or reconstruction work. At left
the emblem depicting the 10th legion, the imperial eagle, its head is missing - perching over a
wreath and there under a Nike standing of a crouching Atlas. At right an inscription, see the
