Caesarea (Israel)

Unfinished aqueduct

This aqueduct was built before the construction of the (West) dam, to channel water to Caesarea.
Part of the aqueduct was cut into the rock; the part that passes through the streambed was
constructed of stone blocks. The aqueduct, which was 0,4 - 0,5 m wide, was roofed with stone slabs.
Its floor is 3,2 m above sea level - too low to channel water to Caesarea by gravity force. For this
of other reasons, the construction work was halted.
