Caesarea (Israel)

Behind the sluices

The dam in the Taninim and Ada rivers was built in the late Roman period to raise the water level
in order to be able to supply it to the Low level aqueduct to Caesarea. In the Byzantine period
(324 - 638 CE) six flour mills were added. On the photo the remains behind the dam and some
reconstructions. At middle left the water inlet of the Low level aqueduct.
