Access-shaft

One of the many access-shafts in the upper aqueduct under the acropolis of Gadara. The mean distance between such shafts was 30 - 40 meter what is in line with Vitruvius' suggestion of one actus (about 0,355 m). These shafts ware used by the construction of the tunnel and afterwards were used for inspection and maintenance
