Place de Trion, Fountain

The fountain of Claudius, Place de Trion: Fountain of Bugey-limestone discovered in 1983 during the excavations at the Verbe-Incarné on the Fourvière hill on a crossing of ancient roads. On top of the column on reads 'CLAVD(ius) AVG(ustus)' which refers to the emperor Claudius, born in Lyon in 10 BC. The fountain probable dates from the visit of the emperor to his birth-place during the return-journey after his campaign in Brittania in 43 AD
