Cross-section of the channel

Over time the tunnel has changed considerably (see text block above),
it was made deeper by the Turks in 1900 and served as a water reservoir.
Later on an iron pipe replaced the tunnel succeeded by a pipe in concrete.
Note the gabled roof.
