Nemea (Greece)

Plan of the Nemean bath house

The eastern and western bathing rooms each contained four tubs that served as the source of water
for the athletes to pour over one another’s heads. The large central room contained a pool
for the final rinse.
Note the four external basins at the southern side of the bath house to store and control the
water supply. The aqueduct entered from the east (right) side. Water was (by night) also directed to
the triple reservoir at the west (left) side of the bath house. In the middle of the basins there was
a water closet.
