Patara (Turkey)

Mettius Modestus' arch

This arch, the main symbol of Patara (Turkey) was not a gate but a structure to honor the first Roman governor of Lycia and
Pamphylia and his family. It is 10m high, 19m long and 2,5m wide. It did also play a role in the water supply, see the
opening at the west (left) side from where water could splash into the basin (5,50 x 7,75 m externally) at the foot
of this structure.
