Calcareous deposits

Pompeii’s towers were equipped with vertical grooves, probably for the main supplying lead pipes.
Too much supply or too modest consumption caused overflow over the top of the box, resulting – after
years - in layers of calcareous deposits on the sides of the towers. Note the imprints of lead pipes.
