On the south side of the Porta Maggiore, along the busy Via Eleniana, are the remains of a series of
water reservoirs, belonging to a bath complex, built during the reign of Septimius Severus and in the
4th c CE restored by order of St. Helena, the mother of Constantin I. Technically speaking, the
reservoirs could have been fed by the Aqua Alexandrina - also built by Septimius Severus - but also
other, more nearby aqueducts have levels high enough to have done so.
