Although its clear drawing made by a friend of Th. Ashby (see his book The Aqueducts of Rome,
1935, fig 31) Grotte Sconce, an interesting triple basin of the Aqua Anio Novus, is hard to find on
the steep slopes south of Tivoli along the Via Pomata. Apart from its basins Grotte Sconce consisted
of three 'down-channels' which made it possible to divert water from the Aqua Anio Novus into the
Aqua Claudia, Aqua Marcia and/or the Aqua Anio Vetus. At present only parts of the now roofless
basins are visible.
