From Roman times on many alterations of the Porta Maggiore have taken place, here some extra
gates were built within the original Roman gates. The tomb of the baker Vergilius Eurysaces is
missing on this drawing of J.B. Piranesi! Note the three inscriptions on the Porta Maggiore
