Roma Vecchia-
  Porta Maggiore

Maggiore - Tiburtina 2

Top right the (Acqua Felice (16th c) based on the substructions of the) Aquae Claudia and Anio
Novus, entering 'ad Spes Veterum'; both take a sharp turn to the right, cross the Porta Maggiore
(ancient Porta Praenestina), take a new sharp turn, now to the left direction 'castellum'
(distribution basin).
Just before the Porta Maggiore a branch of the Aqua Claudia called Arcus Neroniani (or
Caelimontani) bends to the west, direction Caelian Hill / Palatine.

The Aquae Marcia, Tepula and Julia (top) skim the Porta Maggiore and head towards Porta
Tiburtina and beyond (on this stretch the Acqua Felice used their substruction).
Note the two branches: the old Rivus Herculaneus (Aqua Marcia) to the Caelian Hill, and the
so-called 'Ramus Aquae Juliae' (Aqua Julia ???) towards a nymphaeum at Piazza Vittorio
Emanuele II. From Andrea Pollett's website.
