Aqua Virgo

Memorial plaque

Throughout her long life, the ancient Aqua Virgo and later the Acqua Vergine, underwent a series of
restorations. Many emperors and popes were proud to have contributed to the upkeep of the water
supply of Rome. The text of the memorial plaque reads (more or less):
Reminder [of the fact that] Benedictus XIV, as a precaution, repaired our ancient Aqua Virginis, abundant and perennial, in the year of our Lord 1753.
Note the small water spout at the foot of the plaque.
