Basin under the church

The water for the ancient town of Samos came from sources N of Agiades and was collected in a water basin which is now under the old church in Agiades (a few km S from Mytilini). The water seeped through openings in the N and NE walls and was led away in an aqueduct channel direction E. The water is still running from open basins nearby via the reservoir under the church - which is now completely sealed - and poured into a small rivulet, which in spring time is running W of the Kastro hill.
