Bird's-eye view

Bird's-eye view of the collecting basin / reservoir under the old church of Agiades. Note the different openings: the lowest for cleaning purposes, the upper one is the outlet for the discharge of the water. The reservoir is roughly triangular. Fabricius noted 14 four-sided piers made of large chalk blocks. When it was roofed over and covered with earth, the reservoir must have been completely camouflaged. Probably in ancient times its exact location was known only to those entrusted with the maintenance of the water supply (Goodfield1964).
