Area of Puteoli

Details of the Aqua Augusta / Serino aqueduct in the Portus Iulius area between Puteoli and Baiae.
Note the shifted coast line and, also in green, the so-called Campanian aqueduct coming from the
north to Puteoli. The light and dark blue lake was Lacus Lucrinus, with in the left upper corner
Lacus Avernus. From there two road tunnels (Grotta Cocceio and Crypta Romana) gave easy access to
Cumae (left upper corner).
